Horizontal roof lines with deep overhangs gracefully connect the many volumes of this distinctive house and anchor the house to its surroundings. The exterior is rich with architectural details and boasts a variety of materials; cast concrete wraps the base of the house, red cedar shingles clad the walls beneath the overhangs and painted wood graces the gables. Rooms on the second floor derive their shape from the roof. Dormers create intimate spaces for a window seat and a bath tub. As with all of Joan’s homes, many green building practices including use of local materials and energy efficient building and mechanical systems are seamlessly integrated in this home.
