Vermont Architect, Joan Heaton is a graduate of Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning. While at Cornell, she studied abroad in Berlin, Vienna and Rome. Joan later returned to Rome where she worked for Studio Einaudi, an architecture firm specializing in the restoration of historic buildings. Upon returning home to Vermont, Joan worked at a number of architecture firms before opening her own practice in Bristol, Vermont in 1996.
Joan was an instructor at the Yestermorrow design-build school in Warren, Vermont where she taught courses to architecture students and developed a curriculum focused on evaluating green building materials. Joan has worked as a carpenter and participated in building several projects of her own design. Joan is a licensed architect in Vermont and New York, a member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Vermont Green Building Network.
